Kindergarten Academics

What we are working on ...
We've been listening to stories such as Rosie the Hen, Sheep on a Ship, Willaby Wallaby, Me Too, 10 Ladybugs, To Market To Market, and the Legend of the Indian Paintbrush.

The Children have been busy making Pilgrim hats and Native American headbands for our Friendship Feast on November 21, 2000. They decorated with glitter glue, stamps, and finger paints. Thanksgiving week has been busy with making Pilgrim collages, making Friendship Soup, coloring Pilgrims and Native Americans to the windows.

At Paul School, the children are learning in Library how to take care of the books, check-out the books, and listening to a story told by Mrs. Grady. In Music Class, they are using voices in many different wasy. We're hearing some great voices and doing some silly songs in Music Class with Mr. Kendrick. With Christmas around the corner, the children have been busy practicing some songs for our Christmas Concert..

Letter People
Throughout the year, will be learning the alphabet by meeting the "Letter People" who come to visit our classroom from Letter Land. They each have a very special characteristic about them that helps the children remember what the letters look like and sound like such as Mr. H has horrible hair and Miss A is Miss Achoo.

The letters we've met so far are Mr. R, Mr. N., and Mr. D. Ask you children what is each letter's special characteristics. Mr. R is grumpy, Mr. N has a noisey nose, and Mr. D loves dougnuts. To help remember the sounds of the letters, we made a rattlesnake puppet and have been saying our names by counting out the sounds.

Math
The children are learning about shorter and taller. Their shoes were put in the middle of the rug and the they were lined up by shortest to tallest. We're also comparing same sizes and same number of things in the classroom and the math book..

Social Skills
Besides their academics in the classroom, they will also be learning social skills. Being able to share the toys, their friends, help the teachers and the other classmates, and generally be a good citizen.
